Host Profile Picture
We’re a Chilean–German couple who recently traded Germany for Chile to bring a long-held idea to life: a relaxed coliving and coworking space by the ocean. We love the sea, watersports, and an active outdoor lifestyle—and we’re excited to share that passion with our guests. To begin, we’re opening just two rooms, intentionally keeping things small, personal, and community-driven. Our place is about more than just a desk and a bed. We share local knowledge about the many activities around here (and yes, there are plenty), cook and eat together when it fits, and create a focused but easygoing work atmosphere where everyone benefits from the shared energy. On our side, we’re curious and always happy to learn—about food, cultures, marketing, SEO, or whatever knowledge naturally flows within a diverse and open community. If you’re looking for ocean time, productive workdays, and genuine exchange, you’ll feel right at home here.

Coliving with us in Matanzas

We launched our coliving concept in January this year with a clear vision: to create a place that meaningfully connects the many outdoor activities in this area with the natural rhythm of the environment.

That’s why we’re called Südwind—German for “southern wind.” This wind direction dominates our region and naturally guides our days: it tells us when to go surfing, when it’s time for kitesurfing or windsurfing, and when it’s best to slow down and rest.

Typically, the wind picks up in the afternoon, bringing consistent conditions for long sessions on the water. Mornings, on the other hand, are usually calm—perfect for surfing before the wind sets in.

This creates something quite unique: in one single day, you can surf in the morning and go kitesurfing or windsurfing in the afternoon.

And here’s a little secret of this spot: there’s rarely a crowded lineup. Most people prefer enjoying the beach rather than the water. Yes, the ocean can be a bit cold—but with a good wetsuit, you’re more than ready.

Our remote working community

As we’ve just launched the concept, we’re still learning what works best for our community. Our core idea is simple: combining living and working in a way that creates real synergies—supporting each other, sharing experiences, and enjoying life together.

A few times a week, we like to share meals, mainly vegetarian, as a way to exchange recipes, cultures, and stories. Once a week, there’s also a fun game night with the popular local dice game cachos. It’s a great icebreaker and always comes with lots of laughter. On weekends, there are often small parties in the area that we enjoy going to together.

From our side, we’re always happy to share tips on what to explore around here. And if your board gets a ding, we can help you with basic repairs.

We welcome all kinds of people who love outdoor sports and nature. Whether you work remotely (like we do) or not isn’t what matters to us—what counts is an open mindset and a shared appreciation for an active, simple lifestyle.

Our Coworking Space

We run on Starlink, providing reliable and stable Wi-Fi. As we both work remotely, there’s a natural work-focused atmosphere in the house.

We have four work tables (so far there are just 2 fotos, I know, but there will be soon more!), so everyone can find a comfortable spot to work productively. If you feel like changing your setup or working outside the house for a bit, there’s also a coworking café in the village of Matanzas.

The balance between focused work and time outdoors comes quite naturally here.

The Surf near Matanzas, Chile

The closest surf spot is Matanzas, about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive from the house. The beach offers great infrastructure, including parking, surf schools, and rental shops.

We partner with a local surf school and can help arrange a good deal depending on your level and what you’re looking for—whether that’s lessons, rentals, or guided sessions.

The wave in Matanzas works well for all levels. You can choose to surf in the more protected area behind the rocks or on the point, depending on conditions and experience.

If you have a car, there are even more spots to explore, such as Puertecillo (around 45 minutes away) or La Boca (about 15 minutes).
Kitesurfing & windsurfing

Not to forget the wind sports: both kitesurfing and windsurfing are excellent in this area.

Matanzas offers great conditions for windsurfing, while kitesurfing is more consistent in nearby Pupuya, just a 10-minute drive away. The infrastructure in Pupuya is outstanding—there’s a well-organized clubhouse where you can park, rig your equipment, and, after your session, enjoy a good meal and a drink while watching the sunset in the ocean.

The combination of short distances, reliable wind, and solid infrastructure makes it easy to fit great sessions into your day.

How to get here

The closest airport is in Santiago (Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport). From there, Matanzas is about a 2.5-hour drive. There are three direct buses per day from Santiago to Matanzas, costing around 12 000 CLP. Once you arrive in Matanzas, it’s either a 15-minute walk to our place or we can help coordinate a pickup—the last stretch is a bit steep uphill. Local taxis are also available and easy to call. For the most flexibility, we recommend renting a car in Santiago. This makes it much easier to explore nearby beaches for surf, kitesurf, windsurf and other adventures inland. Some roads in the area are dusty and bumpy, so a car with decent power is recommended. If you want full freedom and access to all spots, a 4x4 is ideal but during summer months a 4x2 ist also fine. Matanzas gets lively and vibrant on summer weekends, while weekdays remain calm and relaxed. The village has almost everything you need: amazing pizza with cozy bonfires, great burgers, sushi, food trucks and small restaurants, fresh fish straight from the fishermen on the beach, empanadas, and coffee spots with ocean views. You’ll also find a second-hand shop, several small stores selling handcrafted goods, and—of course—a surf shop. It’s a small place with a lot of character, ocean energy, and an easygoing rhythm that’s perfect for work, surf, and slow living. The neighboring village is Pupuya, 8min. driving —less known, still a bit of a secret, and a true gem for kitesurfing. When the wind picks up in the afternoon, the sky fills with colorful kites dancing above the bay. At the spot, there’s a small clubhouse where you can park, set up your equipment, and, after your session, recharge your batteries and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. It’s all very uncomplicated, local, and focused on time on the water. Pupuya perfectly complements Matanzas: more raw and ideal when the wind delivers.
