The Surf near Azores, Portugal

When it comes to surfing, the stunning archipelago of the Azores is often referred to as the Hawaii of Europe, for good reasons. The islands are very well exposed to frequent North Atlantic swells that create epic waves all year round.

On our island which is the island of São Miguel, you'll find pristine and idyllic beach breaks, reef breaks, and long point breaks. Basically, a surfer's paradise, offering heavy swells for experienced surfers, as well as more protected spots with smaller waves for beginners.

LAVA Açores is located only minutes from Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara. One of the most popular surf spots on the island and a place where annual surf competitions are hosted. If needed a surfboard rental is located right on the beach, and if you need to brush up your skills the beach also has a surf school.
