Working Remotely in Lombok

With its tropical climate, stunning nature, affordability, and way fewer tourists, Lombok is a great alternative to its beautiful but busy neighbor Bali.
Besides world-class surf, Lombok, just like Bali, offers some amazing yoga opportunities, as well as diving and beautiful hiking trails along caves, waterfalls, and volcanoes.

Thanks to its internet connectivity, Lombok is also a remote work-friendly destination, especially around Kuta Lombok. Although the internet here generally is stable, getting an affordable sim-card as a backup is a great idea.

Kuta is the main hub for surfers, digital nomads, and travelers alike. Thus this is also most likely where you would want to stay if you prefer to have some stuff going on around you.

In Kuta, you have a few coworking options as well as some remote work-friendly cafes.

If you instead prefer to stay somewhere with a more local vibe, the capital Mataram could also be a good option.

Surfing in Lombok

With lots of spots for all levels, regardless of whether you're advanced or just starting out Lombok is a surf haven. Within a 30 min scooter drive from Kuta you have an array of waves to choose from.

From the super smooth beginner-friendly waves and the long sandy beach of Selong Belanak to the picture-perfect intermediate waves of Gerupuk. And then you also have Desert Point. Considered one of the best waves in the world, this one is only for highly experienced surfers. Enter at your own risk.

If you are a complete beginner or want to get some pointers, there are also lots of surf schools and teachers around Kuta.

Getting There

Kuta Lombok is only a half-hour taxi ride from the Lombok airport. Once in Kuta, the best way to get around is to rent a scooter.
