Right point breaks, beach breaks, river mouths, and coves, around Santa Cruz you have a great variety of spots suited for all levels. Beyond the spots the town also offers a vibrant surf community and surf culture with numerous surf schools, board rentals, and surf shops.

Among the spots, you have the right-hand point break of Steamer Lane, offering world-class rides for experienced surfers during powerful swells.

If you're more of a beginner, get up early to beat the crowds and check out Pleasure Point, known for its consistent waves. Once the session is over, the surrounding neighborhood has a laidback and surf-friendly vibe. Perfect for grabbing an after-surf breakfast in one of the cafes.

Getting There

Santa Cruz is 40 minutes by car from San José airport or roughly 1 hour from the San Francisco airport. There are also Grayhound and Amtrack busses between San Francisco, San José, and Santa Cruz.
